Our Parental Mentoring Initiative partners with the JAKE pre-trial diversion program operated by the Gulf Ridge Council of Boy Scouts in Florida’s 10th and 13th Judicial Circuits (Hillsborough, Polk, Hardee, and Highlands counties). In the 6th Circuit (Pinellas), our partner is the Neighborhood Accountability Board, a diversion program operated by Bethel Community Foundation. Our Motherhood Mentoring Initiative works closely in East Tampa with the Hillsborough County Health Department and Central Hillsborough Healthy Start. Each organization refers the new and expectant mothers that we connect to a compatible Mentor. For The Family serves on the Central Hillsborough Healthy Start Community Council. Our Community Mentoring Initiative serves Associates referred by non-profit agencies, churches, and professional mental health practitioners. Individuals who meet our service criteria can enroll as Associates, though they can also be referred to more targeted care options. Toward that end, For The Family serves on the Hillsborough County Children’s Committee in addition to the county-wide Local Planning Team and Parenting Coalition. Click here to learn more.
The agency also has established local and regional ties with the faith-based community by serving on the Board of Directors of the Tampa Bay Area Faith-Based Alliance, the University Area Faith-Based Coalition Advisory Board, and through its connection to individual churches.
Our volunteer Mentors enroll in the Initiative they feel most qualified to serve. They join by visiting this Web site, as well as from all of the sources listed above. Shelter Is Golden Hosts and Guests come from the community at large. Our emergency preparedness service works with local employers, Neighborhood Associations, and other community organizations. For The Family is a charter member of the Hillsborough County Citizen Corps Council, a coalition of public safety, law enforcement, and non-profit agencies that fosters and coordinates citizen participation during an emergency.
